Sabarimala Vratham is a 41-day period of fasting and austerity observed by devotees of Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity of Sabarimala temple in Kerala.   • The devotees should abstain from meat, fish, eggs, alcohol, tobacco, garlic, onion and other spicy or sour foods.



  • The devotees should eat only vegetarian food that is cooked fresh and avoid eating leftovers or stale food.



  • The devotees should take bath twice a day, apply sandalwood paste on their forehead and chant the name of Lord Ayyappa.



  • The devotees should visit a nearby temple every day and perform puja, bhajan and meditation.



  • The devotees should observe celibacy and avoid any sexual thoughts or activities.



  • The devotees should speak only the truth and avoid lying, cheating, stealing, hurting or harming anyone.
